The CAPM certification was made to help with project team members, as well as helping to improve the success of projects as well. When it comes to getting your CAPM certification, there are guidelines that have to be met in order to know your level of experience and your professional knowledge as well. Along with taking the exam, you will also be required to adhere to the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct too.
To apply to take the CPAM exam you must have a high school diploma or a global equivalent, as well as 1,500 hours of work under your belt as part of a team or at least 23 hours of project management education. If you have the 1,500 hours of professional experience, than you will have a detailed document that you will complete, as well as the application form to turn in too. If you have the 23 hours of project management education, you will need to prove this than. You can have the education through a University of College, as well as continuing education programs, distance education programs, training companies or PMI providers as well.
You will than need to also than take the three hour exam, that consists of 150 questions to receive the actual certification. The exam is administered by the PMI organization or Project Management Institute. They are the leader in these types of certifications, when it comes to Project Management. With either option above, you will need to complete the application and pay the fees associated with the exam. It is $300 for non members and $225 for members of the PMI. To be a member of the PMI, it is $119. Joining the PMI in this instance does not save you any money when it comes to the exam, so only join if you really want to, since you will be paying over $300 for the exam after the membership payment.
Once your application has been approved to take the CAPM exam, you have one year to take it. You will want to schedule when you want to take it and you are allowed three times in a year, if you do not pass the first time. You will than begin studying the PMBOK Guide, making sure to understand all the chapters thoroughly, since each chapter is weighted differently. You will need to answer correctly 135 questions out of the 150 to pass and you have three hours to complete the exam.
Lastly, you will receive the exam results immediately and you will either pass or fail. If you pass, than you will receive your CPAM certification in the mail shortly there after.
