Types of Vintage Shoes

Vintage shoes come in a variety of styles to choose from. They are always available in a selection of unique vintage colors and patterns to match any outfit or vintage style that is desired. Ankle strap shoes have straps made of varying materials that wrap around the ankle. The shoe and the straps can be made of coordinating materials, as well as the straps can be made of leather, buckles, ribbon, cord or anything else to tie around the ankles. Ballet flats are similar to actual ballet shoes. They are flat with a rounded toe, they are like a slipper almost, except with a hard sole on the bottom. They are slip on shoes that have no buckles usually or ties. Mary Janes are a closed toed shoe, that is flat and there is usually one or two straps that go over the top of the foot. These come in a variety of materials and usually are commonly worn by children, but are now made for adults too. Kitten heels have a very low heel on them. They usually are set more inward on the bottom of the shoe and the heel is tapered also. They are usually never more than an inch and half in height. French heels are similar to Kitten heels, however the heel is slightly higher and thicker too. The heel usually has a slight curve to it also. Mules have rounded and covered toes and the front of the foot, while the back is open. These slip on and off and they can be completely flat, as well as have a heel on them too. The heels can be low or very high and even chunky as well. Pumps are slip on shoes that are low cut around the foot. There are no straps and they may have only a slight heel on them. Platforms have very thick, chunky heels on them. The sole even under the rest of the foot is thick as well. These can have the entire heel be this way or the shoe may have a stiletto heel combined with or a wedge or some other combination. Peep toes are shoes that have only a slight opening by the toes. The opening may be curved, rounded or wedge shaped. These come with a variety of heels on them. Sling backs are similar to mules in that the front of the foot is covered, but instead of the back of the shoe being completely opened, there is a strap that goes around the heel in the back. These can have a heel on them or be completely flat as well. Sandals come in a variety of styles also. They are shoes that are open toed and usually strappy in some way. They may also be flip flops or combinations of other shoes too, such as having heels or wedges on them also. Wedges are a shoe with a wedge shaped heel. Heel goes from the back of the shoe and under the foot too. This creates the wedge shape. Stiletto heels are very high and pointy. They are very thin and usually are no less than 3 inches and can typically be as high as 6 inches. ​​​​ Most vintage shoes will be found at vintage stores. What each store has to offer will vary greatly.
