Hand Made Halloween Costume Ideas

Halloween is right around the corner and it is time to start thinking about costumes either for yourself or your children. There are a lot of costumes that can be purchased from stores, but you can also make a Halloween costume too. These can fit you or someone else specifically and be anything you would like them to be. These are so much more personalized than when one is bought. Not to mention the fact too that after years of dressing up for Halloween, it can be hard to think of a costume to wear. But when you make one, it leaves the options wide open for anything you would like to be. Here are some examples of simple Halloween costumes to make that work for babies, children, teens and adults too. The Butterfly Halloween Costume The butterfly costume is easy to create. The main part that needs to be made are the large butterfly wings. A leotard and tights can be worn on the legs and body, while the large wings are worn on the back. The wings can be made of felt and wire to keep the form of the wings. Cut the wings from felt material in any color you choose and attach the wire around the edges by gluing in place. Additional colorful felt pieces can be added to the wings for the butterfly wing pattern. Once the wire has been added to the wings, use elastic to create and sew straps onto the inside of the wings, so the arms can go through them. This is when you will need to place the wings near the body of the person to see where the straps should be added. An antenna head band can also be worn and the makeup can be done in any way to match the wings. The Bird Halloween Costume With the bird costume, choose the color you want the bird to be. The main clothing is a leotard and tights again in the color of your choice. Than choose coordinating colors for the breast piece of the bird. Cut a bib shape from the felt and attach ribbons on either side at the top and at the bottom to tie on. You can add feathers around the neck area with a hot glue gun too. For the tail feathers use a piece of felt to attach feathers to it and attach ribbon also so that it can be tied on. Feathers can be added onto the ribbon also, to hide it when it is tied onto the person. Now measure around the wrists of the person to make cuffs to attach feathers to as well. Cut the felt to length and attach ribbon so they can be tied on. Attach feathers to the cuffs and if you can, to the ribbons as well. Lastly, there is the beak to make for the bird. You can use a heavy duty velor type paper or something similar to make the beak out of. Use construction paper on the back of it. Make a pointed cone with the paper that is large enough to cover the nose and almost the mouth too. Punch holes in the side to attach elastic too to go over the head to hold in place. The Lamb Halloween Costume For the lamb costume, get a white leotard and using cotton balls, attach these to the front of the leotard, down the chest area. On the back of the leotard, for the tail, attach cotton balls here too. Take a white nit cap and add felt ears to either side in either white or coordinating colors, such as brown and with pink insides. Attach cotton balls to the top of the nit cap as well. Wear light brown leggings under the white leotard and attach cotton balls around the bottom of the leggings at the ankles.
